Can a product be too good for its own good?
We’ve all heard the expression “it’s too good to be true”. That’s something that as marketers, we have to be careful not to create when we promote our products – no matter how great or innovative they may be. People often have preconceived ideas about what various products can and can’t do, and claims of performance that go beyond those expectations may be viewed as unrealistic and unbelievable. If your customer thinks you are exaggerating the performance of your product, they may still be willing to try it, but will not be willing to pay the price you expect for such an industry break-through. Your customers see the transaction as risky and will want to limit possible losses. Even if your products do all you say and more, if people don’t believe you, the perceived value of your product will lessened.

I know, I know – it’s HEALTHY! No cream, no butter. I can’t believe it either. BUT….this tastes so good if you don’t tell anyone, they won’t know it’s good for them. I kept it a secret from all and even the kids raved about how much they liked them and that I would have to make these again.

I’ve been watching the netbook market for a few months now trying to figure out what system would be small enough to be easy to carry, yet still big enough to be easy to use. My requirements, while simple, evolved over time. Initially I only considered machines with “real” hard drives, even though I thought the SSD drives were seriously cool. I was concerned about the limited storage space. Thankfully I realized that it made more sense to carry my music, videos and what-have-you on cheap flash drives than to waste battery power on running a “real” hard drive just for occasional storage needs. more…
